A tripartite joint venture was established by China National Aviation Corporation (Group) Limited (CNAC Group), British Airways Limited (BA) and Hutchison Whampoa (China) Limited (HWCL) on 17th January 1995, with CNAC Group holding 40% share while BA and HWCL each holding 30% share. Addition of United Airlines, Inc. (UAL) to the joint venure on 30th June 1995 as a shareholder changed the shareholding in CASL to 40% by CNAC Group and 20% each by BA, HWCL and UAL.
