Under Secretary for Transport and Housing of the HKSAR Government Mr. Yau Shing-mu, visited China Aircraft Services Limited (CASL) and had a tour at its aircraft maintenance and training facilities on 23 October 2013. He was welcomed by CASL Chief Executive Officer Dr. Angus Cheung.
CASL provides a range of aviation services including aircraft maintenance, cabin cleaning and ground support equipment at Hong Kong International Airport. Mr. Yau was impressed with the recently broadcast TV drama and informative programmes on TVB, which introduced to the public about the work of the supporting units at the airport. CASL assisted in the filming of these programmes by providing its hangar and technical advice, and its staff being the interviewees in the informative programmes. He expressed appreciation to CASL staff for their dedicated work which would be helpful for Hong Kong to retain its long-term competitiveness and position as an international aviation hub. Mr. Yau also thanked CASL for supporting the filming of television programmes.
Taking this opportunity, Mr. Yau talked with CASL staff from different departments and learnt about the current situation of the industry. He also met some young aircraft mechanics and freshmen. In view of the industry’s positive prospects, he encouraged these youngsters to pursue their career in aircraft maintenance. The Financial Secretary announced to designate HK$100 million to establish a training fund for maritime and aviation transport in his Budget Speech for 2013. He hoped this fund would be able to enhance various training schemes and scholarships and attract more youngsters to join the industry.
Dr. Cheung felt grateful to Mr. Yau for spending the afternoon to visit CASL and was delighted that he offered such a good chance for CASL staff to exchange views.
